Body: Healthy living is generally defined by how physically healthy you are, correct? For example, if you have a cold or are sick, you are considered not healthy. If you are dealth a life changing disease such as cancer or aids, you are unhealthy. Now does this mean that it is completely physical? Absolutely not! Health is also made up by your mental state. Think about this, the type of music you listen to generally affects your personality type. Here is a great example: I listened to Hard Rock as a teen (most teenagers do) and was very wild, mischievous, full of energy, and fun! Today I am more mature, I listen to lighter music and I am more relaxed, laid back, careless, and less energetic.
Now focus on music and creating your mood. Again, talking about the heavy rock, how does it make you feel when you listen to it? I know based on experience that heavy music gets my blood rushing, my heart pounding, my head pulsing. It kicks me into
overdrive! Now, how do you feel when you listen to light music? Let me take you to the opposite side of the spectrum and use classical music as an example. While listening to a song written by Beethoven, how do you feel? I usually feel very classy, sophisticated, makes me feel like learning, opening a book, become a better person. It is a totally different mood it puts me in. How does it make you feel?
Why would this make you live a healthier life? The correct type of music can help your mood and personality get better, creating a positive and happy outlook on life. It is a true statement that a happier person lives longer and is in better health than someone who is always concerned about something, miserable, and unhappy. The body was not made to handle stress all the time. This is where disease comes from. Look at the word, dis ease. This means there is not ease in the body, stress can be the cause. Music can be the cure.
Music can be enjoyed by all. How great do you feel when you hear your favorite song come on the radio or iPod? How does it make you feel when you hear a song you do not enjoy? Not that good right?
Let us discuss movies. What about scary movies, what kind of music do they play? Some play really scary high pitched, quick paced scary soundtracks, others have gotten smart and play NOTHING musically. This is smart because mentally, without music your mind wonders and it allows them to put more suspense behind the movie. Do you remember the Blair Witch Project? It was a low budget film, and done with little to no soundtrack. Somehow it still had the capability of being one of the most popular and watched horror movies of its time.
What about your feel good movies? Have you ever seen Disneys Enchanted? It is a musical all in its own that has light, fluffy, dance in the street, hug your neighbor, charming music. It should make you feel very caring and uncharacteristically in the mood to dance in the streets. The producers knew what they were doing with this. As with most Disney movies the soundtrack is key. It puts the movie watches in a positive mind frame and gives them something to look forward to.
What about action movies, what type of music do they focus on? Would you say fast paced rock, techno, heavy music? Look at one of the best action movies ever The Matrix. The theme song is a bass guitar with a fast paced riff. It puts me in the mood to kick some butt! Not the most positive attitude, but still, makes me content at that time.
What does all this music stuff have to do with living longer and healthier? Find out what makes you happy and concentrate your efforts on that sort of music. Do not try to trick yourself; you know what it is that makes you feel good. Enjoy this knowledge that you now have on living just a little bit healthier with music and share this with your friends.
If you like this article, you should think about indulging in music a great deal more.
