There are a lot of causes for nausea. Indigestion can produce feelings of nausea, as can such ailments as stomach flu, or pregnancy.

The result, however, no matter what the cause, is an upset and sometimes painful stomach and the feeling of needing to vomit.

Weve all had nausea at some point -- or many points -- in our lives, and will most likely have nausea again. Most nausea can be easily treated at home.

Multiple products on the shelves of every local pharmacy are for the sole purpose of treating nausea, and you can hardly turn on the television without
seeing some actors singing, dancing, and promoting these products.

Granted, many of the products work well, but they aren't the only alternative for solving the problem of nausea. And I'm always a little skeptical about taking products that contain substances with names that I can't pronounce.

Ginger is one of the oldest known home remedies for calming the stomach and the feeling of nausea. I can pronounce "ginger" just fine.

Eating just a small piece of fresh ginger or pickled ginger will settle the stomach quickly. A tea can be made as well by boiling ginger root in water and
drinking it either with or without honey.

Peppermint is another herb that has been long used for treating nausea very successfully. (I can pronounce "peppermint," too.)

A tea made with peppermint leaves is very soothing, and if you've noticed, even commercial nausea-easing medications often make use of peppermint.

Lemon is very effective in settling an upset stomach. Just smelling a fresh-cut lemon can sometimes ease the feeling of nausea.

Adding lemon to teas made of ginger or peppermint can increase their effectiveness.

Additionally, including plain yogurt in the daily diet can decrease the frequency of nausea in many people.
